Jets acquire Hunter from Cowboys

The New York Jets acquired cornerback Pete Hunter from the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday for a conditional draft selection. Hunter, 25, was originally drafted by the Cowboys in the fifth round of the 2002 Draft out of Virginia Union. The 6-foot-2, 212-pounder has played in 30 regular season games, including five starts, and has recorded 43 tackles, one sack and three interceptions. "I am excited about coming home and playing for the Jets," said Hunter, an Atlantic City, NJ native. "I grew up watching the Green and White, this is a great opportunity. I've heard great things about playing for Coach (Herman) Edwards and I'm really looking forward to joining my new teammates. I'm ready to get to work and contribute to the team." "Pete is a player we identified a few months ago as someone who will provide depth to our secondary," said Jets' executive vice president and general manager Terry Bradway. "He's a big, physical corner who will contribute on defense and special teams. We believe he has upside and that our coaches can put him in position to make plays." The Jets are scheduled to report for training camp on July 28, with the first practice scheduled the morning of July 29.
