Cubs sign Enrique Wilson

The Chicago Cubs Tuesday signed infielder Enrique Wilson to a one-year contract. As per team policy, financial terms of the deal were not released. Wilson began the 2005 campaign with Triple-A Ottawa and had a .279 average while hitting three homers and driving in eight runs in 20 games. The 31-year-old Wilson, an eight-year major league veteran, last played in the big leagues in 2004 when he was with the Yankees. During that season, Wilson batted just .213, but did reach career-highs with six homers and 31 RBI. Wilson, who has played 540 career games, has also enjoyed stints with Cleveland and Pittsburgh and has a lifetime average of .246 with 22 homers and 141 RBI. In other team news, the Cubs optioned infielder Ronny Cedeno to Triple-A Iowa and transferred pitcher Chad Fox to the 60-day disabled list.
