Tim Brown retires as a Raider

Future Hall of Fame wide receiver Tim Brown signed a one-day contract with the Oakland Raiders on Monday, then announced his retirement as a member of the team for which he spent 16 seasons. Brown began his 17-year NFL career with the Raiders after being selected in the first round of the 1988 draft. He holds virtually every Raider receiving record and is the franchise's all-time leader in games played with 240. "I thought I would just keep on playing and keep on playing," Brown said at a news conference Monday. "It's time for me to retire. It's time for me to move on to a different phase of my life." The nine-time Pro Bowl selection spent the 2004 season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, starting four of the 15 games he played, and had 24 receptions for 200 yards with one touchdown. After winning the Heisman Trophy in 1987 at Notre Dame, Brown became a fixture in the Raider lineup. He is third in NFL history with 1,094 receptions and second in league annals with 14,934 receiving yards.
