The Toronto Blue Jays traded infielder John McDonald to the Detroit Tigers Friday in exchange for a player to be named later.
McDonald hit .290 with 12 RBI in 27 games with the Blue Jays, who acquired the 30-year-old from Cleveland in December. The seventh-year veteran is regarded as an outstanding defensive player who can fill in at shortstop, second base and third.
A 12th-round draft choice of Cleveland in 1996, McDonald is a .239 career hitter with four home runs and 45 RBI in 322 career games with the Indians and Blue Jays.
