The Cincinnati Reds dealt third baseman Joe Randa to the San Diego Padres on Saturday for pitching prospects Justin Germano and Travis Chick.
Randa is batting .289 with 13 homers and 48 runs batted in this season. The 35-year-old Randa played 92 games for the Reds in 2005.
Germano, meanwhile, will be assigned to Triple-A Louisville after posting solid numbers for San Diego's minor league affiliate in Portland. He went 7-6 with a 3.60 earned run average in 19 starts out west.
Chick, who will be assigned to Cincinnati's Double-A club in Chattanooga, is a non-roster player, while Germano is on the 40-man roster. Chick compiled a 2-9 mark with a 5.36 ERA in 19 starts for Double-A Mobile.
In a related move, the Reds recalled third baseman Edwin Encarnacion from Louisville to take Randa's place on the 25-man roster. Encarnacion batted .222 in 10 appearances and three starts for the Reds from June 24 - July 5.
San Diego also demoted third baseman Sean Burroughs to its Triple-A team in Portland. He was hitting only .255 with one home run and 15 RBI.
