Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Frank Catalanotto was selected as the American League Player of the Week for the period of July 18-24.
Catalanotto led all AL players with a .565 (13-of-23) average, eight runs scored and a .600 on-base percentage over six games. He collected five multi- hit games, drove in nine runs and finished with 23 total bases and a slugging percentage of 1.000.
The 31-year-old Catalanotto raised his average from .298 to .317 after his six-game surge and is hitting .397 (25-for-63) during the month of July. This is the nine-year veteran's first career weekly honor.
Others nominated for the award include Chone Figgins of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Jason Giambi of the New York Yankees, Detroit's Jeremy Bonderman, Oakland's Rich Harden and Tampa Bay's Scott Kazmir.
