The Cleveland Indians placed outfielder Coco Crisp on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with a right thumb sprain.
Crisp suffered the injury during Tuesday's win over the Angels while sliding into third base. Crisp, who is making his first career trip to the disabled list, finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored versus Anaheim.
In 38 games this season, the 25-year-old Crisp is batting .283 with three home runs, 11 RBI and a team-high 24 runs scored.
The Tribe also recalled outfielder Jody Gerut from Triple-A Buffalo to fill Crisp's roster spot.
Gerut has yet to play in the majors this season after undergoing reconstructive knee surgery last September. He suffered a torn ACL in a September 17 contest against the Kansas City Royals when his right knee buckled as he chased a ball off the bat of Abraham Nunez.
The 27-year-old Gerut hit .252 with 11 homers and 51 RBI in 134 games last year -- a drop off from the production of his rookie season in 2003 when he belted 22 homers with 75 RBI.
Gerut spent the last two weeks at Buffalo and hit .438 in 12 games with three homers and eight RBI since beginning a rehab assignment there on May 3.
