The Baltimore Orioles announced Wednesday that they have placed outfielder Eli Marrero on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right thumb.
Marrero is expected to undergo an MRI on Thursday and could be sidelined for up to eight weeks with the injury.
On the season, the nine-year veteran is batting just .159 with four homers and nine RBI while spending time with both the Orioles and Kansas City. Marrero was acquired from the Royals on June 8 and is hitting .220 in 22 games with Baltimore.
In other team news, outfielder David Newhan was recalled from Triple-A Ottawa. Newhan, who will make his third appearance with the Orioles this season, is hitting just .198 with three homers and 12 RBI in 49 games with Baltimore.
