Boston's Wade Miller was scratched from his scheduled start against Minnesota Friday night because of stiffness in his pitching shoulder.
Miller, who signed a one-year, $1.5 million contract with the Red Sox in the offseason, missed much of the 2004 campaign and the beginning of 2005.
He spent the first six years of his major league career with Houston, but was limited to 15 starts for the Astros in 2004 because of a rotator cuff injury and finished the campaign 7-7 with a 3.35 ERA.
The righthander is 3-4 with a 4.57 ERA in 14 starts for the Sox.
Bronson Arroyo replaced Miller on the mound for the game against the Twins.
The Red Sox are also without starter Matt Clement, who left the field on a stretcher Tuesday night at Tampa Bay when he was hit in the head by a line drive.
