The Seattle Mariners recalled catcher Wiki Gonzalez from Triple-A Tacoma and designated catcher Pat Borders for assignment on Friday.
Gonzalez will be making his second appearance with the Mariners this season. He was called up on May 6 and played in only four games before suffering a strained left hamstring. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list May 15 and then activated and sent to Tacoma on July 1.
Gonzalez appeared in 37 games with Tacoma this year, hitting .297 with four home runs and 17 RBI.
Borders, 42, appeared in 39 games (37 starts) with the Mariners this season, hitting .197 with one home run and seven RBI. The Mariners now have 10 days to trade, release or outright Borders.
