The host Germans and Spain were Wednesday's winners at the ATP World Team Championship -- a final French Open tuneup.
Germany moved to 2-0 for the week by beating now 0-2 Sweden 2-1 on Day 4, while the Spaniards also improved to 2-0 by handling the 0-2 United States 2-1.
Tommy Haas got the Germans going against Sweden with a 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Joachim Johansson, but Thomas Johansson evened the matchup with a 6-4, 6-2 pasting of Nicolas Kiefer.
Germany prevailed, however, when a tandem of Haas and Alexander Waske topped a Swedish duo of Joachim Johansson and Jonas Bjorkman 6-4, 6-4.
The Germans and Spaniards will meet here on Friday for a spot in the final of this eight-nation clay-court event.
Spain put the U.S. away when Tommy Robredo beat Vincent Spadea 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 and David Ferrer handled Jeff Morrison 6-4, 7-6 (9-7). The Americans won the doubles bout when Bob and Mike Bryan leveled a Spanish tandem of Alex Lopez Moron and Santiago Ventura 6-2, 6-3.
The other finalist will be decided here on Thursday, when the two-time defending champion Chileans battle the 2002 titlist Argentines.
Chile is led by Fernando Gonzalez and Nicolas Massu. Gonzalez is 15-0 lifetime at this tournament, including 10-0 in singles. Powerful Argentina has the likes of French Open champion Gaston Gaudio and French Open runner-up Guillermo Coria at its disposal.
Gaudio will meet Gonzalez in the opening match, followed by a bout between Guillermo Canas and the dual-Olympic gold medalist Massu.
