The American Hockey League announced Wednesday that two franchises were granted voluntary suspension for next season at the league's annual Spring Meeting.
The Cincinnati Mighty Ducks applied for suspension after their affiliation with the National Hockey League's Mighty Ducks of Anaheim was ended on Monday.
"We want to thank our fans and sponsors for their support of Mighty Ducks hockey for the past eight seasons," team president and CEO Pete Robinson said. "We look forward to returning in 2006-07 under a new name and with a new NHL affiliate."
The Utah Grizzlies, affiliated with the NHL's Phoenix Coyotes, were also granted voluntary suspension for the 2005-06 season.
Also at this week's meetings, the AHL formally introduced four new league entries for next season: the Iowa Stars (Dallas Stars), the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights (Calgary Flames), the Peoria Rivermen (St. Louis Blues) and the Toronto Marlies (Toronto Maple Leafs).
