As the NHL continues to move forward with business following the new CBA, the Boston Bruins made a move Monday with the Edmonton Oilers.
The Bruins acquired forward Brad Isbister in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. Before the NHL canceled the season, Isbister recorded 10 goals and eight assists in 51 games during the 2003-04 campaign. He missed 26 contests that season because of various injuries.
"Initially I was surprised. I didn't really see it coming," Isbister said of the trade. "But then it was quickly followed by excitement. I know Boston is a great hockey city, and I'm just excited to now be a part of that. It was a surprise, but it was an exciting surprise."
The 28-year-old Isbister played with Innsbruck in Austria this season, recording seven goals and four helpers in 11 games. A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Isbister owns 93 goals and 90 assists in 409 career games.
"I know Boston is a great city, an Original Six city and a big hockey city," Isbister added. "It should be a great place to play hockey. We'll see what happens over the next few days to see what kind of players we have on the roster, but it should be really exciting."
Drafted with the 67th overall pick in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft by the Winnipeg Jets (currently the Phoenix Coyotes), Isbister had his best season with the New York Islanders in 1999-00 with 22 goals and 42 assists.
"Brad is a solid winger who brings good size to our forward lines," Bruins GM Mike O'Connell said. "We're happy to have him on our team."
