Edmonton announced Wednesday that it has acquired veteran forward Michael Peca from the Islanders. In exchange, New York received forward Mike York and a conditional draft choice.
Peca, a 10-year veteran, had spent the past three seasons with New York. In 2003-04, the 31-year-old scored 11 goals and dished out 29 assists in 76 games.
For his career, which includes winning the Frank J. Selke Trophy Award as the league's best defensive forward in 1997 and 2002, Peca has also had stints with Vancouver (1993-95) and Buffalo (1995-2000).
Originally selected with the 40th overall pick in the 1992 draft, Peca has 151 career goals with 371 points in 622 games.
York spent the past three seasons with the Oilers after playing with the New York Rangers for the first three years of his NHL career.
The 27-year-old native of Pontiac, Michigan, York has registered 98 goals and 137 assists in 374 career games.
This marks the third big trade for Edmonton in the past few days. Earlier this week, the Oilers sent Brad Isbister to the Boston Bruins for a draft pick, and then completed a blockbuster deal by getting Chris Pronger from the St. Louis Blues for Eric Brewer, Jeff Woywitka and Doug Lynch.
