Flames sign Leopold and Langkow

The Calgary Flames signed defenseman Jordan Leopold and center Daymond Langkow on Thursday. Terms of their deals were not disclosed. Leopold competed in all 82 regular-season games for the Flames in 2003-04 and played a key role in the club's surprising march to last year's Stanley Cup finals. The Golden Valley, Minnesota native led all Calgary blueliners with nine goals and 24 assists while finishing the year with a plus-eight rating. In the 2004 playoffs, Leopold tied for first among all NHL defenseman with 10 assists in 26 games. The Flames were defeated in seven games by the Tampa Bay Lightning in last year's finals. Leopold was acquired by Calgary from Anaheim in September, 2000. The Mighty Ducks took the former University of Minnesota star in the second round of the 1999 entry draft. Meanwhile, Langkow joined the Flames last August in a trade from the Coyotes for Denis Gauthier and Oleg Saprykin. In 81 games with the Coyotes in 2003-04, Langkow notched 21 goals and 31 assists. In 625 career games, Langkow owns 136 tallies with 218 assists.
