Avs sign Brad May

The Colorado Avalanche signed forward Brad May to a two-year deal on Friday. May last played with the Vancouver Canucks during the 2003-04 season, tallying five goals and six assists in 70 games. "Brad May is a good skater who brings us additional grit, leadership and experience," said Avalanche general manager Pierre Lacroix. The 33-year-old veteran joins his fourth organization, as he has also played with Buffalo and Phoenix. In 804 NHL games he has tallied 120 goals, 146 assists and 1,937 penalty minutes. May was named in a civil lawsuit filed by former Avalanche forward Steve Moore in February. The suit, which stemmed from Todd Bertuzzi's vicious attack on Moore during the 2003-04 season, was filed against Bertuzzi, May, Canucks coach Marc Crawford, former GM Brian Burke and the Vancouver organization. The lawsuit states that Moore was threatened in an earlier game between the Canucks and Avalanche after Vancouver star Markus Naslund suffered a concussion from a Moore hit.
