The Seattle Mariners announced Friday that reliever Jeff Nelson has been activated from the bereavement list.
Nelson had missed the last three games after he took a temporary leave of absence from the team following the death of his father-in-law.
On the season, Nelson has been one of Seattle's most reliable relievers. In 38 appearances, the veteran righty is 1-1 with a 2.93 ERA, while holding right-handed hitters to a .179 batting average.
In other team news, Seattle optioned right-handed pitcher Masao Kida to Triple-A Tacoma. In addition, the Mariners also recalled outfielder Chris Snelling and optioned outfielder Jamal Strong to Tacoma.
Kida, 36, has pitched in 65 career major league games between Detroit, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Seattle. He was named to the PCL All-Star team and was also selected as the PCL Pitcher of the Week from June 13-20.
The 23-year-old Snelling batted .370 with eight homers and 46 RBI over 65 games at Tacoma. In nine games with Seattle, he went 2-for-9.
Strong, 26, appeared in two games as a pinch-runner with the Mariners. In 86 games with the Tacoma Rainiers, he hit .290 with four homers and 36 RBI.
