New York Yankees pitcher Randy Johnson arrived at Rogers Centre on Sunday with back stiffness and spasms, one day after a poor start against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Johnson took the loss in an 8-5 setback Saturday in Toronto and apparently began experiencing back pain during the contest. He lasted only four innings and was charged with six runs -- five earned -- on 10 hits with a walk and three strikeouts.
The Yankees said Johnson's status for his next scheduled start -- Thursday against the Texas Rangers -- will be determined during the week. He is expected to be further examined when the team returns home Monday.
Johnson has had a mediocre first year with the Yankees, posting an 11-7 record with a 4.29 earned run average in 24 starts.
New York's rotation is already thin with Kevin Brown, Carl Pavano, Jaret Wright and Chien-Ming Wang on the disabled list.
