New York Yankees pitcher Carl Pavano will have his right shoulder examined Monday by noted sports surgeon Dr. James Andrews.
Yankee manager Joe Torre said Sunday that Pavano, who has been sidelined since late June, will skip a scheduled rehab outing Monday to make the trip to Birmingham, Alabama.
"It's not good," Torre said after Sunday's 6-2 win over Toronto. "He felt the shoulder didn't feel right. [Yankee GM Brian Cashman] suggested Pavano just go and see the doctor."
Pavano is 4-6 with a 4.77 earned run average this season, his first with New York after signing a four-year, $40 million contract in the offseason.
The Yankees also learned before Sunday's game that Randy Johnson is suffering from back stiffness and spasms. He will be examined further on Monday.
