Milwaukee sends veteran Borders to Seattle

The Milwaukee Brewers sent veteran catcher Pat Borders to the Seattle Mariners on Thursday in exchange for cash. The 42-year-old backstop, who signed a minor league contract with the Brewers on November 30, appeared in 26 games for the Brewers' Triple-A affiliate this season and batted .245 (24-98) with three homers and 14 runs batted in. "Pat Borders is a veteran catcher and his leadership will be missed by our organization," said Milwaukee general manager Doug Melvin. "But we did not want to prevent him from this Major League opportunity." For his career, Borders owns a .255 average with 12 home runs and 68 RBI in 1,060 games with the Toronto Blue Jays, Kansas City Royals, Houston Astros, St. Louis Cardinals, California Angels, Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Indians, Mariners and Minnesota Twins. Borders, the MVP of the 1992 World Series, split time between 2001-04 with the Mariners and their Triple-A team in Tacoma.
