The Colorado Rockies activated first baseman Todd Helton from the 15-day disabled list prior to their 6-5, 10-inning win over the Pittsburgh Pirates at Coors Field on Wednesday.
Helton scored the winning run and finished 2-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI in his first game since he suffered a strained left calf muscle back on July 25 against the New York Mets.
The 31-year-old Helton, whose stint on the DL was the first of his career, is hitting .295 with just 11 homers and 44 RBI in 97 games this season. Helton is a career .335 hitter and never had less than 25 homers or 96 RBI in a season.
To make room for Helton on the roster, the Rockies optioned infielder Ryan Shealy to Triple-A Colorado Springs. Shealy was hitting .333 with two homers and 14 RBI in 22 games.
