The San Francisco Giants activated starting pitcher Kirk Rueter from the 15-day disabled list Sunday, but then immediately designated him for assignment.
Rueter had been sidelined retroactive to July 30 with gout in his right big toe. In his last start, the lefthander received a no-decision as he permitted five runs on seven hits over just 3 2/3 innings.
On the season, Rueter has posted a 2-7 record in 18 starts. The veteran, who has a 5.95 ERA, has not won since May 13 against Houston.
