Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward ended his holdout on Monday and returned to the team, but was not in uniform for a preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
A Pro Bowl selection the last four years, Ward is expected to resume negotiations for a contract extension this week. He has one year left on an existing deal that would pay him nearly $1.67 million.
Ward had combined with Plaxico Burress for 115 catches, 1,702 receiving yards and nine touchdowns last season. However, Burress is not on the team either this season, as he signed a free-agent deal with the New York Giants.
The 29-year-old Ward has never missed a regular-season game in his playing career, and has 505 receptions for 6,055 yards and 41 touchdowns. He topped the Steelers with 80 catches for 1,004 yards and had four TDs last season.
Ward has played the first seven years of his NFL career with the Steelers, and this season expects to be a record-breaker. The only Steelers receiver to have four straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons, Ward is 32 catches behind John Stallworth (537) for the all-time team lead.
