The San Diego Padres placed shortstop Khalil Greene on the 15-day disabled list Monday with a non-displaced fracture of his left toe.
Greene suffered the injury in Sunday's 8-3 loss to Philadelphia after diving for a ball hit by Phillies catcher Todd Pratt. The second-year shortstop got his body twisted when he dove for the ball and his foot jammed into the ground.
He will likely be sidelined for two-to-three weeks.
This will be the second trip to the disabled list in 2005 for Greene, who was also sidelined at the beginning of the season with a broken finger.
The 25-year-old Greene is batting .257 with 10 home runs and 49 RBI in 92 games this season. In his career, he a .262 hitter with 27 homers and 120 RBI in 251 contests.
In other team news, the Padres purchased the contract of outfielder Wilson Valdez from Triple-A Portland. Valdez batted .245 with one homer and 15 RBI in 49 games with the Beavers.
San Diego, which is in first place in the NL West despite a record of 58-59, kicks off a six-game road trip beginning on Tuesday night in Florida.
