Wright comes back to Yankee rotation

New York Yankees righthander Jaret Wright made a successful return from the disabled list, as the oft-injured hurler threw 6 1/3 strong innings in Monday's 5-2 victory at Tampa Bay. Wright was sharp in his first major-league outing since April 23, allowing just two runs and four hits while throwing 50 of 79 pitches for strikes. The 29-year-old, one of New York's key targets during its offseason spending spree, had been sidelined nearly four months with inflammation and torn scar tissue in his throwing shoulder. He had made just four April starts before being shut down. Wright, who improved to 3-2 and lowered his earned run average to 7.62, threw six innings last Tuesday against Ft. Myers in a rehab assignment with the Class A Tampa Yankees. He gave up two earned runs on seven hits while striking out four. "It's definitely different starting a big league game after three months of rehab," he said after Monday's win. "Nothing in Single-A really compares, so I was definitely nervous and excited. Around the fourth (inning), I settled in." To make room on the active roster, the Yankees optioned lefthander Wayne Franklin to Triple-A Columbus. Franklin had allowed eight runs -- five earned -- in nine relief appearances over two separate stints with New York.
