The San Francisco Giants activated All- Star closer Armando Benitez from the 60-day disabled list prior to Monday's game against Cincinnati.
Benitez, who had been sidelined since April 27 with a torn tendon in his right hamstring, missed a total of 96 games with the injury.
The 32-year-old Benitez, who suffered the injury while running to first base on the final play of an April 26 game against the San Diego Padres, underwent surgery the following week to have the tendons reattached to the bone.
Benitez is 1-1 with a 5.79 ERA and four saves in six chances this year.
A 12-year veteran, Benitez inked a three-year contract in the offseason worth a reported $21 million after spending one season with Florida. In 2004, Benitez collected a career-high and Marlins club record 47 saves in 51 chances while compiling a 2-2 record with a 1.29 ERA. The righthander's 47 saves were also tied with St. Louis' Jason Isringhausen for the most in the National League.
He has also pitched for Baltimore, the Mets, Seattle and the Yankees and has 248 saves with a 2.89 ERA during his career, which spans back to 1994.
In a related move, the Giants sent pitcher Brian Cooper to Triple-A Fresno.
