Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim outfielder Vladimir Guerrero has been named the American League's Player of the Week for games played between August 8-14.
Guerrero led all American League hitters with five home runs, 13 runs batted in, nine runs scored and 26 total bases, while his 1.182 slugging percentage and .593 on base percentage were also tops in the league. The All-Star slugger batted .500 (11-for-22) in six games.
The 2004 AL Most Valuable Player hit a pair of home runs in the Angels' 9-4 victory over Seattle on Friday and belted his third career grand slam to lead the club to a 9-2 decision over division rival Oakland on August 9.
Guerrero has now captured a Player of the Week award in each season since 1998. His last came on October 3 of last year.
Other candidates for the award included Tampa Bay's Jorge Cantu, Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees, Boston's Tony Graffanino, Minnesota's Johan Santana and Toronto's Josh Towers.
