Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Jason Bay was named National League Player of the Week for the period of August 8-14, 2005.
Bay batted .440 with two homers, eight RBI and 19 total bases last week. The native of Canada also had a .760 slugging percentage and a .517 on-base percentage as Pittsburgh went 4-2 last week.
In addition, Bay has reached base safely in 29 straight games dating back to July 16 and ranked in the top five in seven major offensive categories last week.
Other nominees for the weekly honor included New York's David Wright, Houston's Morgan Ensberg, A.J. Burnett and Josh Beckett of the Marlins. Philadelphia's Pat Burrell and Ryan Howard and Bay's teammates Jose Castillo, Jack Wilson and Dave Williams.
