The St. Louis Cardinals activated catcher Yadier Molina from the 15-day disabled list prior to Thursday's 9-2 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The 23-year-old Molina, who was hit by a pitch on July 7 and suffered a hairline fracture to his fifth metacarpal on his left hand, ended the game 0-for-3. This season he is batting .252 with five homers and 30 runs batted in. Molina was selected by the Cardinals in the fourth round of the 2000 amateur draft.
In related moves, the Cardinals optioned outfielder Skip Schumacher to Triple- A Memphis and outrighted pitcher Jimmy Journell off the 40-man roster to Memphis.
