Bonds moves to 60-day DL; Grissom also sidelined

The San Francisco Giants shifted Barry Bonds to the 60-day disabled list Friday and placed fellow outfielder Marquis Grissom on the 15-day DL retroactive to May 18. Bonds, who has underwent three surgeries to his right knee since January and has not played this season, will be ineligible to return to action until at least June 2. However, the star slugger could be out until after the All-Star break following the latest arthroscopic procedure to clean out an infection in the knee earlier this month. The move was made to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for infielder Brian Dallimore, who was recalled from Triple-A Fresno to replace Grissom. Grissom missed the final two games of this week's series at Colorado with a right knee contusion. The veteran centerfielder was batting just .202 with two home runs and 13 RBI in 32 games. Dallimore won the Pacific Coast League batting title with a .352 average in 2003 and was hitting .255 with four home runs in 38 games at Fresno this year. Bonds also had arthroscopic surgery on March 17 for a debridement of tears in the medial and lateral menisci of his right knee. It was the second operation on the knee in less than two months, as he also had a minor arthritis cleanup and small meniscus tear repaired on January 31. He's had the knee drained three times since the March 17 operation.
