Chicago Cubs pitcher Joe Borowski was activated off the 15-day disabled list Friday.
Borowski had been sidelined with a non-displaced fracture to his right ulna, an injury he sustained after being hit on the wrist by a line drive during a March 21 spring training game.
The 34-year-old righthander had a 5.40 earned run average this spring after coming back from an injury last season. Borowski missed the final four months of the 2004 campaign with a slight tear in his right rotator cuff.
In 22 games last year, Borowski posted a record of 2-4 with nine saves and an 8.02 ERA. He had a breakout year in 2003 with 33 saves, a 2.63 ERA and a 2-2 record in 68 appearances.
Borowski was selected by the White Sox in the 32nd round of the 1989 amateur draft, but did not make his major league debut until 1995 with Baltimore. He has also pitched for the Braves and Yankees.
In a related move, infielder Michael Fontenot was optioned to Triple-A Iowa. Fontenot made his major league debut on April 13, but had just two at-bats in seven games
