Toronto Blue Jays designated hitter Corey Koskie was placed on the 15-day disabled list after he fractured his right thumb during Thursday's 4-0 loss to the Minnesota Twins.
Koskie suffered the injury while sliding into second base after tagging up on a fly out by Vernon Wells. Koskie collided with Minnesota's Luis Rivas on the play and was later taken to a local hospital for X-rays, which revealed the fracture.
Toronto manager John Gibbons said that Koskie will remain in Minnesota to see a hand specialist and there is no timetable for his return.
The 31-year-old Koskie signed a three-year contract with Toronto during the offseason after he spent the first seven years of his career with the Twins, who selected him in the 26th round of the 1994 First Year Player Draft.
Koskie, who singled in his only at-bat, is hitting .248 this season with seven homers and 16 RBI.
Meanwhile, the Blue Jays purchased the contract of infielder Aaron Hill from Triple-A Syracuse. To make room for Hill, Toronto designated first baseman Eric Crozier for assignment.
