The Boston Red Sox activated outfielder Trot Nixon from the 15-day disabled list prior to their 5-2 win against the lowly Kansas City Royals on Tuesday
Nixon, who has been sidelined since July 27 with a left oblique strain, ended 1-for-4 with an RBI and started in right field for the Red Sox, who have won two straight -- three of four -- and still lead the AL East by 3 1/2 games over the Yankees.
The veteran Nixon is hitting .293 with 11 homers and 50 RBI in 89 games with the Red Sox this season.
To make room for Nixon on the roster, the Red Sox shipped lefthander Lenny DiNardo to Triple-A Pawtucket. DiNardo has posted a 10.80 earned run average in three relief appearances for Boston this season.
