Hawaii blanks Louisiana; Curacao advances in LLWS

Sheyne Baniaga's two-run homer was all that was needed, as Ewa Beach, Hawaii topped Lafayette, Louisiana, 2-0, to advance to the United States final at the Little League World Series. The team from Hawaii will now face Rancho Bueno Vista of Vista, California in the U.S. championship game on Saturday. Myron Enos earned the win, as he scattered five hits over five innings to help Hawaii improve to 4-0 thus far in the tournament. Enos ended with eight strikeouts and did not walk a batter. Quentin Guevara then came on in relief of Enos in the sixth inning and got Connor Toups to groundout to end the game and preserve the shutout. Louisiana pitcher Jace Conrad was spectacular in defeat as he permitted just the one hit over five strong innings, but was not helped by his offense. Conrad struck out six batters. Lafayette, LA lost its final two games of the tournament after posting a pair of comeback wins in the opening two contests. In an International semifinal earlier on Thursday, Curacao rolled to a five- inning, 16-1 thrashing of Guam. The Caribbean champs, who will face Japan in Saturday's International final, had mustered just eight runs in their three previous games, while hitting a paltry 1.82. However, on Thursday Curacao erupted for 13 hits and scored 11 runs alone in the fifth inning before the mercy-rule was called. The 16 runs, which were the most scored at this year's tournament, was the highest single-game run total by any Curacao team in six years at the World Series (1980 and every year since 2001). The appearance marks the fifth straight for a team from Curacao and the third in a row by a Pabao squad, which includes last year's World Championship team.
