Greek international midfielder Stelios Giannakopoulos signed a new three-year contract with English Premiership side Bolton as a one-year loan deal was agreed with Juventus for Croatian international defender Igor Tudor.
Giannakopoulos' signing ends mounting speculation that he was on the verge of a move to either Liverpool or Manchester City.
The 31-year-old, who helped Greece to Euro 2004 glory last year, joined Bolton from Olympiakos two years ago, and he played 28 matches, scoring seven goals, last season. His initial contract ran until June 2006.
Bolton chairman Phil Gartside confirmed that talks are ongoing to agree personal terms with 27-year-old Tudor who can play in defence or midfield.
Gartside said: "We have agreed it with Juventus and we have been talking to the player for a couple of days.
"It's just a question of getting him to Bolton and telling him what Bolton is all about and if we can do that then we will have got a good signing.
"He has three years on his contract and Juventus are not keen to let him out on a permanent deal but they are quite prepared to let him out on a loan basis.
"However we have a good record whether they are permanent or not that when we bring a player into the club it's very rare that they leave. Even with our loan players within a year they have always signed and carried on playing."
Despite his defensive concerns, which are eased slightly by the return from suspension of Bruno N'Gotty, manager Sam Allardyce now finds himself with an abundance of options in other areas with Mexican Jared Borgetti and Japanese new boy Hidetoshi Nakata both available.
However Allardyce is urging caution over his latest signings and insists he intends to give the pair a gradual introduction to the rigours of the Premiership.
Allardyce added: "We've finally got clearance through for Nakata so he can come into the fray if we think it's necessary or when we think it is necessary."
