The Chicago Cubs placed third baseman Aramis Ramirez on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a strained left quadriceps muscle.
Ramirez suffered the injury in the first inning of Wednesday's 3-1 loss to the Atlanta Braves at Wrigley Field when running out an inning-ending double-play grounder. After leaving the batter's box, Ramirez grabbed his left leg just before hitting the bag. He stumbled over the base and fell to the ground.
Jose Macias replaced him in the top of the second inning at third.
Ramirez is enjoying a successful season, despite the Cubs' woes. He is hitting .302 with 31 homers and a team-best 92 RBI.
Chicago recalled infielder Ronny Cedeno from Triple-A Iowa to replace Ramirez on the roster. In 65 games with Iowa the shortstop is hitting .355 with 14 doubles, eight homers and 36 RBI.
