St. Louis starting pitcher Mark Mulder was scratched prior to Saturday's 6-0 win against Washington due to a stiff neck.
Jason Marquis was given the emergency start in place of Mulder and was sensational on the mound, as he tossed his second complete game of the season and second of his career to earn the win. Marquis scattered just two hits, while mixing in three strikeouts and no walks en route to his first career shutout.
Mulder, who currently sports a 15-6 mark with a 3.74 ERA for the Cardinals, is expected to take the hill on Sunday.
If he goes on Sunday, the lefty will be bidding for his third consecutive victory and 16th of the season. He has won seven of his last eight decisions overall.
