Cochran cut as Seahawks trim roster

Veteran defensive end Antonio Cochran was among 14 players released Monday by the Seattle Seahawks as the team reduced its preseason roster to 65. Cochran had spent all six of his NFL seasons with the Seahawks, who selected him in the fourth round of the 1999 draft. He started seven games and ranked second on the team with 6 1/2 sacks last year, but became expendable when Seattle acquired defensive end Alain Kashama in a trade with Chicago on Sunday. The 29-year-old Cochran started all 16 contests for the Seahawks in 2002 and had a career-best 36 tackles along with three sacks and an interception that season. Defensive end Otis Leverette, a four-year NFL veteran who has played for Washington, San Diego and San Francisco, also had his contract terminated Monday. Seattle also waived safeties Jamaal Brimmer, Terry Holley and Junior Rosegreen, wide receivers Marque Davis and Jason Willis, defensive end Ronald Flemons, long snapper Tim Galloway, guards Steven Gibbs and Matt Miller and tight end Calen Powell. Running back Dante Brown and defensive tackle Ron Smith were placed on the waived/injured list.
