New York Mets third baseman David Wright has been selected as the National League's Player of the Week for games played between August 22-28. Wright batted .481 (13-for-27) with three home runs, five RBI, 10 runs scored and 25 total bases to help lead the Mets to five wins in seven games during a West Coast trip. He topped all NL players in hits, slugging percentage (.926), on-base percentage (.533) and total bases, while his 10 runs tied for the league lead. The second-year slugger, who is currently riding a 10-game hitting streak which has raised his season average to .314, went 4-for-5 with two homers and scored four times in an 18-4 victory at Arizona on August 24, and finished 3- for-3 with four runs scored in a 14-1 whipping of the Diamondbacks one day earlier. He reached base all nine times over those two games. Others considered for the award included Ken Griffey Jr. and Luke Hudson of Cincinnati; Tim Hudson and Andruw Jones of Atlanta; Jeff Conine, Carlos Delgado, Todd Jones, Juan Pierre and Dontrelle Willis of Florida; Derrek Lee and Jerry Hairston Jr. of the Cubs; Dioner Navarro, Oscar Robles and Jeff Weaver of the Dodgers; Brian Giles and Jake Peavy of San Diego; San Francisco's Noah Lowry; Shawn Green and Chad Tracy of Arizona; David Eckstein of St. Louis; Philadelphia's Ryan Howard and the Mets' Mike Jacobs.
