The Chicago White Sox activated All-Star outfielder Scott Podsednik from the 15-day disabled list Monday, one of two moves made by the American League Central leaders prior to their series opener at Texas.
Podsednik, who leads the majors with 54 stolen bases, has been out since August 12 due to a strained left adductor muscle, and the White Sox have gone just 5-8 in the 13 games since their leadoff hitter was sidelined. He started Monday's loss in Texas and went 0-for-5 with an RBI.
Acquired in the offseason trade which sent outfield slugger Carlos Lee to Milwaukee, Podsednik is batting .278 with 62 runs scored in 100 games during his first year in Chicago and has been a sparkplug at the top of the White Sox lineup. He was voted to his first All-Star game in July and leads the AL with 31 infield hits.
Podsednik played a pair of games with Chicago's Triple-A team in Charlotte over the weekend and had two hits and two runs scored in nine at-bats.
To make room on the active roster, outfield prospect Brian Anderson was optioned to Charlotte.
The White Sox also optioned righthanded pitcher Jon Adkins to Charlotte and recalled righty Jeff Bajenaru from the International League club.
Adkins went 0-1 with an 8.64 earned run average in five appearances with Chicago following a July 31 promotion. Bajenaru, who tossed one scoreless inning in the loss to the Rangers, recorded 19 saves and a 1.30 ERA in 46 relief outings with the Knights.
