The Colorado Rockies had two previously injured regulars in the lineup during Friday's 11-3 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers, as shortstop Clint Barmes and outfielder Brad Hawpe were both activated from the disabled list prior to the game.
Barmes went 0-for-5 in his first major league action since June 5, the same day he broke his left clavicle in a home accident. The 26-year-old was immediately placed on the 60-day disabled list and underwent surgery shortly afterward.
At the time of the injury, Barmes was one of the leading candidates for the National League's Rookie of the Year award. He is batting .322 with eight home runs, 34 RBI and 40 runs scored in 55 games.
Hawpe, who had missed 47 straight games after being put on the 15-day DL July 10 due to a strained left hamstring, finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in the rout. The second-year rightfielder is hitting .298 with eight homers and 40 RBI in 76 contests this season.
The Rockies also recalled right-handed pitcher Zach Day from Colorado Springs on Friday. Day, who was acquired in a trade with the Washington Nationals over the All-Star break, made two relief appearances with the Rockies in July before being sent down. For the year he is 1-2 with a 7.05 ERA in 14 games between Washington and Colorado.
