Former world No. 1 American Venus Williams and 16-year-old Czech Nicole Vaidisova will do battle in Saturday's title match at the inaugural Istanbul Cup -- a final French Open tuneup.
The top-seeded Williams whipped 17-year-old Bulgarian qualifier Tszvetana Pironkova 6-1, 6-3, while the second-seeded Vaidisova came from behind to beat third-seeded Israeli Anna Smashnova 4-6, 6-1, 6-0 in Friday's semifinal action at this $200,000 tournament.
The 24-year-old Williams and Vaidisova will meet for the first time on Saturday.
Williams, seeking her first title since May of last year, owns 31 career championships, including four Grand Slam titles. She's 31-18 in her previous finals after losing to Amelie Mauresmo in a title match in Antwerp earlier this season.
Vaidisova owns two career titles, with both coming last year. This marks her first final of 2005 and the third of her blossoming career.
