Kyle Busch captured the Quaker Steak & Lube 200 at the Lowe's Motor Speedway. The No.15 Chevrolet driver crossed the finish line three lengths ahead of runner-up Terry Cook.
The victory was the first of Busch's Craftsman career. The younger brother of 2004 Nextel Cup Series champion Kurt Busch, who turned 20 years-old on May 2nd, became the youngest winner in Craftsman Truck Series history.
"The truck was awesome tonight," said Busch. "I can't thank these guys enough for letting me drive this thing. Its fun racing these trucks."
Busch quickly showed how strong his truck was when he moved from third to the lead just five laps into the 134-lap event. He stayed there holding off all challenges until he pitted on lap 60.
Matt Crafton inherited the top spot when Busch pitted with Johnny Benson and Nextel Cup driver Tony Stewart in third. Stewart, who had started at the back of the field due to a late engine change, had charged through the pack easily. But it was not to be for Stewart as the truck developed engine problems just three laps later.
"We changed the whole fuel system, the electrical system and the motor before qualifying," said Stewart. Whatever it was it came back on the third lap and it was just getting worse there at the end."
Skinner, meanwhile, had moved back up to take the lead. He held the top spot until he made a tactical error with just under 20 laps to go. He was passing Brad Keselowski and had more than a two-second lead when he slid up into the No.29 and they both slammed the outside wall.
"It's all my fault, driver error," said a saddened Skinner.
Busch, who had just passed Terry Cook for second place, inherited the lead and would not be denied.
A green-white-checker finish was the only challenge for the 20-year-old and when he got a good jump, the race was over.
Ted Musgrave, Benson and Steve Park completed the top-five.
Bobby Hamilton struggled to a 28th-place finish after and early race crash and lost his championship lead to Musgrave. Musgrave now owns a 41-point margins after seven events (1,088-1,047). Ricky Craven (1,029) and Jimmy Spencer (993) are the only other drivers within 100 points of the leader.
The next event is scheduled for the Dover International Speedway on June 3rd.
