Wang slated to start Thursday

The New York Yankees will have another starting pitcher back in the rotation this week as rookie Chien-Ming Wang was activated off the 15-day disabled list and will take the ball for Thursday's game against Tampa Bay. Wang had been sidelined since mid-July because of shoulder inflammation. In 13 games this season, including 12 starts, Wang has posted a record of 6-3 with a 3.89 earned run average. The 25-year-old righthander was recalled from Triple-A Columbus on April 27 to take the rotation spot of Jaret Wright, who went on the DL four days earlier, then made his major league debut three days later against Toronto. He notched his first big league win on May 10 against Seattle. Wright has also returned from the DL, but the Yankees still have pitchers Mike Mussina, Carl Pavano and Kevin Brown sidelined. Mussina could return later this month. The Yankees also made a number of other roster moves Tuesday, promoting infielder Felix Escalona, pitcher Scott Proctor and outfielder Mike Vento from Triple-A Columbus. Escalona appeared in seven games with the Yankees in August, batting .250 with three hits in 12 at-bats. One hit was a game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth on August 23 against Toronto. Proctor has pitched in 20 games for the Yankees this season, including one emergency start on August 11 against Texas when he threw five innings in a no- decision and allowed three runs on three hits in a 9-8 Yankee win. He has no record with a 4.50 earned run average. Vento spent the 2005 season at Triple-A and batted .291 with 12 homers and 84 RBI in 130 games. The Yankees also designated pitcher Sam Marsonek for assignment.
