Texas Rangers first baseman Mark Teixeira received American League Player of the Week honors for August 29-September 4.
In seven games, he batted .414 with three home runs and 12 RBI while crossing the plate seven times. He had a .500 on-base percentage and led the league with a whopping .862 slugging percentage.
Other candidates for the award included Boston's John Olerud, Chicago's Jermaine Dye and Yankees pitcher Aaron Small.
