St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Chris Carpenter was selected as the National League's Player of the Week for the period of August 29 to September 4.
Carpenter recorded a 2-0 record with a 1.69 ERA and 13 strikeouts in two starts during the week. His complete game at Houston on September 3 was his 20th victory of the season, as he became the first pitcher this season to reach that mark.
The starting pitcher for the NL in this year's All-Star game, Carpenter logged 16.2 innings, allowing just 15 hits, three earned runs and three walks, and his complete game was his 12th straight win during a span of 15 starts.
