Angels' Guerrero placed on 15-day DL

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim star outfielder Vladimir Guerrero was placed on the 15-day disabled list prior to his team's 3-1 win over the Dodgers on Saturday with a partial dislocation of his left shoulder. The American League's reigning MVP left Friday's win over the Dodgers after injuring the shoulder while sliding into home plate. The injury occurred in the fifth inning when the All-Star rightfielder was trying to score from first base on Steve Finley's double. Guerrero's arm has been placed in a sling to immobilize it, and he will have an MRI next week, either Monday or Tuesday, to assess the severity of the injury. "The shoulder did not come out of the socket, but because of the inherent risk of this, we decided not to take any chances," said team doctor Lewis Yocum. Guerrero was replaced in Saturday's starting lineup by Juan Rivera, who hit a grand slam in the ninth inning of Friday's victory, but finished 0-for-4 on Saturday. The 29-year-old Guerrero, who is batting .303 with seven homers and 24 RBI in 41 games this season, has now been on the disabled list five times in his 10 major league seasons, but only once since 1997. To replace Guerrero on the 25-man roster, the team purchased the contract of outfielder Curtis Pride from Triple-A Salt Lake of the Pacific Coast League. Then to, make room for Pride on the 40-man roster, the Angels transferred righthander Bret Prinz to the 60-day DL.
