Saints to play in Baton Rouge and San Antonio

The New Orleans Saints will play their final seven home games of the 2005 season in San Antonio and Baton Rouge, according to the NFL. The league made the announcement Monday after meeting with officials from the state of Louisiana and Louisiana State University. Four games will be played at Tiger Stadium on LSU's campus and three will be played at the Alamodome in San Antonio. It has been a difficult two weeks for the Saints after the team left New Orleans on August 28 because of the threat of Hurricane Katrina. Due to the storm's destruction, it has been nearly impossible for the franchise to return home and the Saints have since relocated to San Antonio in the interim. "We had an excellent meeting this morning and quickly developed a dual consensus," NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue said in a statement. "The first was to continue to give priority to the needs of the region and the second to the scheduling of Saints games in a way that made sense under the total circumstances. "We also appreciate the cooperation of the Alamodome officials and the hospitality of the people of San Antonio for their support of the Saints at this difficult time." The Saints won their season-opener this past Sunday with a 23-20 victory over Carolina. "The last two weeks have felt like six months," Saints coach Jim Haslett said. The team's scheduled home opener against the New York Giants on September 18 was moved to Giants Stadium on Monday, September 19. The Superdome, home of the Saints since 1975, suffered major damage to its interior and exterior while serving as a shelter during the storm and will not be in use this year. During the weekends of October 30-31, November 6-7, December 4-5 and December 17-19, Tiger Stadium will serve as home games for the Saints. The team will also play home games in San Antonio on the weekends of October 2-3, October 16-17 and December 24-26. "We do pretty good on the road," Haslett said. "I'm not really worried about the location. We'll see how it comes out." At Tiger Stadium, the Saints will be the home team against the Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bears, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Carolina Panthers. In San Antonio, the Buffalo Bills, Atlanta Falcons and Detroit Lions will be the visitor. The specific weekend day and kickoff times of the games have not yet been determined.
