Cleveland Indians outfielder Coco Crisp was named the American League Player of the Week on Monday for the period ending September 12.
Crisp hit safely in every game last week and helped the AL wild card-leading Indians to a 7-0 record. He led the majors in batting with a .571 average and notched a .600 on-base percentage.
He also belted three homers, knocked in seven runs and scored eight times. This is the first weekly honor of Crisp's career.
Other candidates for the award included Crisp's teammates Scott Elarton and Cliff Lee, Tampa Bay's Carl Crawford, Seattle's Richie Sexson and Jason Giambi of the Yankees.
