Goosen inches closer to No. 4 in rankings

Retief Goosen's win at the German Masters over the weekend has moved him closer to taking over fellow South African Ernie Els' fourth-place position in the Official World Golf Rankings. The victory, which was Goosen's third in five weeks, moved him within one- tenth of an average point of Els, who had season-ending knee surgery in July. Mark Calcavecchia was a big mover after a victory at the Bell Canadian Open, his first title since 2001. Calcavecchia moved up 66 places into 67th place. Tiger Woods retained the No. 1 overall spot, followed by Vijay Singh, Phil Mickelson, Els and Goosen. Sergio Garcia and Singapore Open champion Adam Scott held on to sixth and seventh place, while Jim Furyk supplanted Chris DiMarco for the eighth position. DiMarco now sits ninth, followed by Kenny Perry at 10. Completing the top 20 were David Toms, Padraig Harrington, Angel Cabrera, Luke Donald, David Love III, Michael Campbell, Darren Clarke, Tim Clark, Fred Couples and Thomas Bjorn. Clarke made the biggest move of those in the top-20, climbing two places from No. 19 last week.
